Bittersweet
Creator & Editor | Fall 2024
Bittersweet is a two minute film that I created during my time at SFSU for my Experimental Film class. Built from fragments of old home videos, childhood photos, and new footage filmed in those locations years later, the piece explores the quiet ache of growing up where imagination fades, colors soften, and the world becomes more complex.
The title Bittersweet reflects the duality of memory: the sadness of knowing a moment is gone, and the comfort of knowing it once existed. Nostalgia sits at the heart of this project as a way to honor the contrast between who I was and who I’ve become. Set to Fiona Apple’s cover of Across the Universe, the editing plays with rhythm and emotional pacing, sticking together past and present through layered visuals, abrupt cuts, and lingering shots. Bittersweet is a meditation on time, memory, and the vulnerability of self-reflection.
